After years of saying, “I’ll do it when I get a minute,” I finally got that minute — well, actually 40,320 of them. Four weeks away from the inbox, swapping PR for some much-needed R&R.
The main question I got asked before (and during) my month off was: “What are you going to do?” The answer? Everything! I visited three different countries, got my first tattoo, spent quality time with loved ones, gave my friends on maternity leave a bit of “respite” (by feeding their kids ice cream — sorry!), and even watched the entire Mission: Impossible franchise back-to-back. Why? Because I could.
There was some rest for the wicked — also the title of another film I conquered during my time off — but I still managed to tick off items from my self-declared Sabbatical To-Do List. Think: cleaning kitchen cupboards, sorting out wardrobes, and taxing my car. I really know how to show myself a good time!
Most importantly, I learned how to truly switch off. I gave myself permission to lounge on the sofa without feeling lazy and enjoyed endless hours doing whatever I fancied — all while tackling long-overdue life admin. Top of that list? Finally changing my maiden name to my married one. (Seriously, someone should launch a service that handles it all — who’s in?!)
Now, I’m back at Brazen with a suntan, fresh energy, a new piece of ink and a head full of inspiration. Sabbaticals aren’t just time off, they’re a powerful reminder that stepping away from the laptop doesn’t hurt anyone. It’s PR, not ER after all. 😉
Huge thanks to Brazen for giving me this incredible opportunity. I ticked off both bucket-list adventures and long-postponed life tasks*. And what a month it was! 🧡
*That reminds me… I still need to change my name. Oops! Looks like I might need to book another sabbatical. What a shame.
