Building Strong Influencer Relationships: Why Personality Matters
7 April 2026
There is often an assumption that influencer management is primarily about briefs, contracts and chasing content approvals. While those elements are of course part of the role, the real foundation of successful influencer work is relationships.
At Brazen, strong influencer campaigns are built on trust, familiarity and mutual respect and that only comes from consistent, genuine connection. As an agency that leads in the influencer space, we know relationships are what unlock the best work.
For me, nurturing influencer relationships starts with personality. I am naturally bubbly, chatty and someone who loves a laugh… and I lean into that! At Brazen, we actively encourage our team to bring that human energy into their work. It sounds simple, but it makes a real difference. Influencers respond to authenticity in much the same way audiences respond to authentic influencer content.
When conversations feel relaxed and human rather than overly corporate, collaboration becomes easier and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
I’m very conscious that the way we communicate with influencers differs from how we speak with clients. With clients, our tone is strategic and structured, focusing on objectives, results and long-term value. With influencers, we take a more chilled and conversational approach. We speak how we would naturally speak in real life. That flexibility removes unnecessary formality and instead creates a sense of friendship.
Our influencer team makes it a point to ensure every influencer feels genuinely valued and special, that this is an opportunity they can’t miss. Whether it’s highlighting their creative strengths, tailoring opportunities to their personal style or making the experience feel exclusive, we aim to create excitement and offer a package that makes saying “yes” feel like the obvious choice.
In terms of communication, email absolutely has its place, but it can sometimes create unnecessary distance. A quick text or voice note often communicates tone and energy far more effectively. You can hear enthusiasm, reassurance and personality in a voice note in a way that you can’t through an email. It softens negotiations, speeds up decision-making and helps build trust. That human-first approach is something we prioritise across all our influencer campaigns at Brazen.
On a day-to-day level, effective influencer management is about balancing commercial awareness with relationship care. There is a significant amount of negotiation involved and I genuinely enjoy that side of the role. At Brazen, we are always conscious of protecting our clients’ budget while ensuring the influencer feels valued. It’s a delicate balance, and it requires both confidence and rapport.
The role also involves constant problem-solving. Plans change, content ideas evolve and sometimes expectations need gently realigning. Being personable and approachable helps enormously in these moments. When influencers feel comfortable with you, they are far more open to feedback, amendments and creative tweaks. That openness ultimately leads to stronger output and smoother campaigns, something we pride ourselves on delivering at Brazen.
One of the relationships we are most proud of is the one we’ve built with a Manchester-based influencer couple with a combined following of 1.5 million across their platforms. We’ve worked with them for over a year and during that time the relationship has grown into a genuine and mutually respected partnership. We text and send voice notes regularly during planning and campaign periods and, even outside of key activity, we check in to see if they have any upcoming plans or simply to wish them happy birthday. It’s the little things that go a long way.
Through building that trust, we created a new opportunity for them as ambassadors for one of our most prolific clients. Rather than focusing on one-off deliverables, we developed a longer-term partnership that opened up ongoing creative opportunities. This approach not only strengthened their connection with the brand but also delivered real commercial value, consistently exceeding content expectations.
What I love most, and what we value as an agency, is the human element. Chatting, understanding what excites an influencer and aligning opportunities with their ambitions. On shoot days, we thrive leading filming, supporting creators and keeping energy high. That relaxed, positive atmosphere ensures everyone feels comfortable, resulting in content that looks effortless and authentic.
Ultimately, influencer management is not just about coordination, it is about relationship strategy. It requires emotional intelligence, commercial awareness and consistency, but it also requires warmth. If influencers are treated purely as profit, the work will feel transactional. If they are treated as partners and people, the result is loyalty, creativity and advocacy.
In an increasingly crowded space, that difference is what sets great campaigns and great agencies like Brazen apart from average ones.
