Hails & Fails – April 4th 2025

In a week of serious headlines where Trump tariffs dominated and 150 violent Manchester City and Chelsea fans were banned from attending the Club World Cup, we saw brands add a much-needed dose of humour to the weekly news agenda with some outstanding April Fool’s campaigns.

Babybel went for the festival fans, Apple trolled Severance and chocolate brand Terry’s gave us toothpaste. It was a week that TV show This Morning would rather forget though after a presenter was called out for a fake ‘April Fool’s’ pregnancy announcement.

HAILS

Babybel’s festival sleeping bag

Babybel, the iconic cheese brand, launched the ultimate throwback festival essential – a limited-edition Wax Sleeping Bag inspired by its famous red wax shell. With a peel-open design and all-weather snugness, they said it was a ticket to staying toasty, whatever the forecast. Think cheese toastie vibes, rain or shine. Fun and well-timed, as prep for festival season is just getting serious.

Apple troll Severance fans

Apple just trolled Severance fans in the best way. Dropping in like a legit product launch, the ‘Lumon Terminal Pro’ hit the Apple Store for April Fool’s – slotted right next to real Macs. After clicking ‘buy now’, fans were hit with an 11-minute BTS video instead. The retro-style terminal was ripped straight from the show’s dystopian office meaning this Severance-related PR stunt could be the best yet?

Terry’s Chocolate drops Chocolate Mint Toothpaste

Brushing your teeth with anything else is now officially boring. Terry’s April Fool’s campaign jumped headfirst into oral care, blending its iconic choc-mint flavour with actual dental hygiene. “Our fans wanted to start and end their day with Terry’s – now they can, and their dentist won’t even flinch,” a spokesperson teased. Fun and, almost, believable.

This Morning’s Georgina Burnett in pregnancy backlash

This Morning presenter Georgina Burnett faced a major backlash after an April Fool’s prank fell flat.

The 46-year-old TV presenter posted a fake pregnancy announcement on Instagram, complete with a baby bump snap and the caption “News!”.

Cue confusion, side-eyes and fury, as fans clocked the 1st April date and her cheeky wink-face replies.

Once the penny dropped, followers slammed the stunt as “insensitive” and “deeply hurtful” – especially to those dealing with infertility. Ouch!
