Hails & Fails – February 7th 2025
7 February 2025
This Sunday is the 2025 Super Bowl, when the world’s biggest brands spend millions of pounds on a 30-second advert that will be watched by millions.
But huge budgets aren’t needed to make impact with these campaigns all great examples of smart creativity.
McDonalds launched a Big Mike order, Doritos revealed the crunchy truth and MAC created pop-culture chaos with a risky idea. While Kayne West is our fail of the week for yet another controversial attempt to grab the limelight.
HAILS
Oh, We’re Loving It!
McDonald’s teamed up with Croydon born rapper Stormzy to launch its first-ever UK based ‘Famous Order’.
The concept of ordering your favourite celeb’s go-to Maccies order has been hugely successful across the pond with stars like rapper Travis Scott revealing their specific order for customers to order for themselves.
So, what’s Stormzy’s meal? Nine McNuggets, fries, two BBQ dips and a Sprite Zero – served with exclusive limited-edition Stormzy stickers and extra merch for lucky customers who order via the app.
Jess Redfearn – Midweight Creative: “This idea makes McDonalds so relatable. It shows that, no matter how big you’ve made it, you’ve still got a McDonald’s go-to order! As a Croydon girl myself, I might have to treat myself this weekend…”

Oh, you had to be square…
Doritos sent social media into meltdown by hinting at a square shaped Dorito with a cryptic social post that simply read ‘The Shape of Things to Come’…
Then, after 10 tense days of snacker panic and speculation, they revealed the truth – that a limited number of square shaped Doritos had been hidden in packets across the country – with the lucky customers who find them winning a whopping £10,000! Why? To launch the upcoming Minecraft Movie!
We’ll take fourteen of them please!
Steven Narloch – Newsroom Writer: “This campaign takes something as simple as the classic Doritos’ shape and turns it into a full-blown cultural moment. It’s disruptive, playful, and proves that even a snack can get people talking when the execution is bold enough.”

I Only Wear Mac
Make up brand MAC won online attention for a new campaign to promote its Nude Collection.
The ‘I Only Wear M-A-C’ campaign features a series of explicit images and TikTok videos of celebs wearing seemingly nothing but nude lipstick and liner, with brand ambassadors including actress and model Julia Fox and US TV personality Tiffany Pollard – both famous for their outspoken, bearing-it-all personalities.
The campaign aims to “prove that nude is anything but neutral” and we think it’s done just that.
Imogen Ruddick – Senior Influencer Manager: “Great copy, great talent casting, great social amplification = big fat hail for meeeee!!”

Nude Grammys stunt controversy
Controversial rapper Kayne West, 47, and his Australian wife Bianca Censori, 30, were reportedly escorted out of this year’s 2025 Grammys red carpet event after the model dropped her black coat in front of photographers to reveal a sheer mini dress that left almost nothing to the imagination.
Since the shocking red-carpet stunt, the model has been threatened with legal action and caused major backlash online from concerned pop-culture fans.
“I just want and have wanted for years – for Kanye West to leave us all the hell alone”, said one blogger. “His wife looks like a victim and a hostage”.
El Fisher – Office Manager/PR assistant: “This was shocking to see, and I think the backlash comes from the public not being sure if it was Bianca’s choice or Kanye’s as in videos, she appears to be hesitating to take the coat off. Yet another PR stunt from Kanye that has the world talking… so I guess it’s a fail or hail depending on who you are?”
