SNAPCHAT SET TO SNATCH FACEBOOK’S CROWN FOR THE UNDER 24’S
Snapchat will overtake Facebook’s user numbers in the 18-24 age bracket before the end of the year, according to the latest forecasts by eMarketer. The network is set to reach 16.2 million UK users by the end of 2018, despite a recent drop in daily active users for the platform as a whole, with 5 million users in the younger age group. Meanwhile, Facebook usage in the same age bracket is predicted to decline by 1.8% compared to 2017, bringing the number of users under 24 down to 4.5 million, and Instagram sits in third place with a forecast of 4.2 million users in this age range.
FACEBOOK EXPERIMENTS WITH EXPANDED A/B TESTING
Advertisers will be pleased to hear that Facebook is reportedly extending tests around A/B testing options for organic page posts. A handful of first-wave publishers, including BuzzFeed, have been granted access to the new option, which allows them to test up to four different options for the same page post, changing copy or creative in order to more objectively measure what resonates best with its audience.
TUNEMOJI MUSICAL GIFS COME TO SNAPCHAT
Following recent moves by Facebook to carve a stake in the world of music through landmark licensing deals and an X-Factor style Talent Show game, Snapchat has followed suit by introducing the option to share musical GIFs. This new option is possible thanks to an integration with musical GIF app Tunemoji, and at present users need to have both Snapchat and the Tunemoji app installed in order to take advantage of the format.
