THE END OF FACEBOOK SHARES?

Facebook has rocked the boat this week by secretly testing a new layout which replaces the ‘share’ button on news feed posts with a direct ‘message’ option. This reflects a wider cultural trend, since private messaging behaviour is on the rise while public post sharing on Facebook has fallen, but brings bad news for brands, since driving public post shares is a key tactic for boosting reach. At present, this new format has only been seen for a small number of accounts, but could be rolled out more broadly if Facebook sees positive results from the experiment.

A FIRST LOOK AT FACEBOOK DATING

Facebook announced that it would be taking steps into the world of online dating back in May, and this week screenshots have surfaced online of the planned Facebook Dating tool. This first look at the social media giant’s attack on apps like Tinder and Bumble appears to show that dating profiles will not be auto-populated with data from a user’s main Facebook profile, in order to give individuals the option to keep their private life private.

SNAPCHAT OFFERS INFLUENCERS CUSTOM STICKERS

Snapchat has granted certain prominent influencers the option to create their own custom sticker packs for use on the platform, offering their fans a unique way to communicate. Influencers including Ketnipz, Audrey Spencer, Cyrene Quiamco, Geeohsnap and Mike Metzler have all taken part in the initial test phase of this new feature, as part of Snapchat’s continued push to keep influencers active on the network.
