ALL EYES ON FACEBOOK WATCH

Another week, another headline about how Facebook are going to take on another social rival. As they leave Instagram to tackle Snapchat’s ongoing success, Facebook continue to focus on toppling YouTube for video views, user attention and influencer power. Facebook Watch has been billed a YouTube killer and now they are promising creators “the opportunity to build an audience of passionate fans and make money for your work”. A perfect strapline for influencers looking to monetise community and content but can they achieve it? Trust is huge in social media and YouTube has a 13-year head start on video. Although 2017 wasn’t the best year for Google’s video behemoth, it’s still the de facto influencer playground for video. We will be watching Facebook Watch closely as more details emerge.

A new study from social management software Sprout Social has revealed Instagram drives the most engagement per post when compared to any social network – 84 times more than Twitter, 54 times more than Pinterest and even 10 times more than Facebook. SNAPCHAT DISOWNED BY ROYALTY

Ok, not real royalty but in Snapchat circles you don’t get much bigger than a Kardashian or a Jenner and this week saw Kylie Jenner openly callout the platform on Twitter. The uber celebrity tweeted “So does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore?” and sent Twitter all a flutter. Its not crisis time for the little ghost but when one of your biggest names publically questions your worth, you’ve got to be a little bit spooked.
