SNAPCHAT TESTING TOOL TO CURATE USER-GENERATED STORIES

Twenty publishers have been granted exclusive access to a new tool developed by Snapchat, allowing them to curate publicly posted Snaps into a narrative to post to their own Story. For broadcasters, this means they now have the option to show an emerging news story from several different perspectives, incorporating on-the-ground footage into their Story, but if rolled out more widely this could also enable brands to gather and showcase user-generated posts featuring their product.

TWITTER GIVES GREATER PROMINENCE TO LIVE-STREAMS

Twitter will now highlight live broadcasts from accounts you follow at the top of your news feed, giving greater prominence to live video in order to increase viewing figures and establish the social network’s position as the go-to destination for in-the-moment content. For brands and advertisers, this gives companies willing to take the plunge into live-video a key opportunity to get their content seen above the competition.

PINTEREST HITS 250 MILLION USERS

Pinterest announced this week that it has now reached 250 million active users, and while this is still dwarfed by Facebook’s 2.23 billion monthly active users and Instagram’s 1 billion, the platform has shown a strong rate of growth, up from 200 million monthly users in September 2017. To put this into context, Snapchat has added just 15m new daily users over the same period of time and Twitter has grown by just 9 million, compared to 50 million new users for Pinterest within the space of a year.
