Hails & Fails – January 6th 2023

Well, hello there 2023! And while we may be less than a week into the New Year, we’ve already seen some fantastic PR campaigns making the headlines this week.

Nationwide pub group, and Brazen client, Greene King helped us all to become better neighbours, Samsung launched a smart-oven for influencers and fundraising website Screaming Cockerel put men’s cancer treatment firmly on the national agenda, with a little help from the Brazen team. It was not a great week for the Royal Family though, after Prince Harry’s tell-all biography pulled back the household’s net curtains.

HAILS

Greene King pubs offering free drink for neighbours

Brazen client Greene King is offering a free drink to Brits who bring a neighbour to their local pub on January 11th. Customers just have to use a special codeword in order to be able to enjoy the unexpected treat.

The ‘Knock on a Neighbour’ initiative comes on the back of research by the pub owner and brewer that reveals 47% of Brits admit feeling lonely once a week or more with the sense of community lost since lockdown.

And the story has enjoyed hits everywhere – 103 pieces of coverage across national and regional media!

Samsung’s new AI oven means influencers can livestream their cooking

Samsung has launched an AI oven for influencers.

The oven has a seven-inch screen and touch controls but the highlight is the AI Camera inside.

The in-built camera can not only detect what you’re cooking and suggest optimal cooking settings, as well as providing you notifications, but can also livestream or take photos of your food while it is cooking.

No price has yet been revealed for the oven but that hasn’t stopped it being covered in media everywhere this week.

Men’s cancer fundraiser now on the national agenda

Dad of two Gavin Brooks has single-handedly put penile cancer on the national agenda after he set up a dedicated fundraising website following a diagnosis for the rare disease.

Gavin, 45, a former soldier from Crewe, fears 2022 could be his last Christmas with his children after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of penile cancer. So, he set up the Screaming Cockerel webpage.

While continuing to receive treatment at The Christie in Manchester, Gavin is doing everything he can to raise awareness and funds for charity through his #CheckYourCockerel campaign.

His story, with a little help from the Brazen team, has been covered everywhere in the last few days, helping raise crucial funds for the fight against penile cancer and showing the true power of cause-related PR. You can visit Gavin’s website here: https://www.screamingcockerel.com/

Prince Harry’s book causes controversy at the palace

It’s been a devastatingly disappointing start to 2023 for the Royal Family, after revelations in Prince Harry’s still-to-be-published book leaked into the media this week.

Commentators and global news media are having a field day with the stories about fights, threats and rows at Buck House this week and the debate around whether he should or shouldn’t have revealed the detail will plod on endlessly. But, one thing is certain – the Royal Family ‘brand’ will not come out of this with its dignity undamaged.
