How we used a royal couple to herald the opening of a new Wilko store in well-heeled Kensington

Make it happen High-street retailer Wilko asked Brazen, as its retained National PR, Regional PR & Social Media agency, to raise awareness of its brand new Wilko store on London’s Kensington High Street – just in time for Christmas.

What we did We photographed and videoed, paparazzi-style, Wills & Kate lookalikes bargain shopping for festive fare at Kensington’s newest store, of course!

They might be the future King and Queen of Britain, but apparently it doesn’t mean the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge don’t love a bargain as much as the rest of us.

Shoppers watched open mouthed as our ‘Kate & Wills’ paid a surprise visit to the brand new homes and gardens store, Wilko, literally around the corner from their house, and filled a shopping basket with festive treats for all the family.

Wilko Kensington store manager, Harlen Holding said: “There were more than a few shocked faces and plenty of double-takes as ‘Kate & Wills’ paid their unexpected visit to our brand new Kensington store.

“The truth is, of course, that it wasn’t actually the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, but one of the UK’s most popular Kate & Wills lookalikes. The effect their visit had was no less dramatic though. We’re hugely proud of our new location and it’s fair to say that our store has everything any self-respecting king, queen, prince or princess would need to make their Christmas a right royal occasion.”
